Hill College women’s basketball player Arhianna Sims-Jackson of Arlington has signed a National Letter of Intent with Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. Sims-Jackson had originally signed with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in April, but was granted a release from the school due to head coach Larry Tidwell leaving to accept the position of chief of staff/assistant coach at Texas Tech University.

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi went 19-12 this season and reached the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament.

‘’I am so excited for Ari and the way things worked out for her. Coach Royce Chadwick and his staff at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi have done a marvelous job building the program down there and have a chance to compete for a conference title next season,” said Hill College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Scott Hyland. “Hopefully Ari will give them that edge to get over the top.”

Sims-Jackson was named Second Team All-Conference this season and led the conference in total rebounds and blocked shots. She also ranked sixth in the nation in blocked shots with 98 blocks. The 6-foot 4-inch post from Arlington averaged 7.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.2 blocked shots per game this year while shooting 56.9 percent from the field in helping the Lady Rebels to an 18-13 record and a third place conference finish. The Lady Rebels reached the Region V Tournament for a program record fourth consecutive year and have amassed 99 wins over the last five seasons, the second most in the conference over that time period.
